This document sets out the legally binding terms governing your access to and use of the Scio mobile application ("Scio," "we," or "the App"), an AI-driven study companion developed by Xianggang Mengchuang ("the Company") and distributed through the Apple App Store. By downloading, installing, or launching Scio, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to every provision below. If you do not accept these terms, please discontinue use immediately and delete the App from your device.
A. What Scio Does & How It Works
Core AI Capabilities
Scio leverages large language model technology to assist students with academic tasks. Depending on the features available in your subscription tier, Scio may: photograph and interpret handwritten or printed homework questions; produce step-by-step worked solutions across mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, and other disciplines; summarize textbook chapters or lecture notes.
AI Limitations You Should Understand
Solutions produced by Scio are generated by statistical models, not human experts. Although we continuously improve accuracy, the App may occasionally return incorrect, incomplete, or misleading information. You must independently verify every answer before relying on it for graded assignments. Scio is a study aid — not a substitute for attending class, consulting teachers, or doing your own thinking.
Important: The Company does not guarantee that any AI-generated answer is correct, complete, or suitable for your specific academic requirement. Always cross-check with authoritative sources.
B. Permitted & Prohibited Conduct
Responsible Academic Use
You agree to use Scio as a personal learning tool — to check your work, understand difficult concepts, and practice skills. You are responsible for ensuring that your use of the App aligns with the academic honesty policies of your school, university, or testing authority.
Activities That Will Get Your Account Revoked
The following actions constitute material breach of these terms and may result in immediate suspension or permanent termination of your access:
- Using Scio during proctored exams, in-class quizzes, or any assessment where external tools are explicitly banned;
- Submitting AI-generated essays, reports, or code as your own original work without disclosure, in violation of your institution's plagiarism standards;
- Sharing, selling, or sub-licensing your account or exporting bulk AI responses for redistribution on homework-answer marketplaces;
- Feeding deliberately harmful, harassing, or explicit content into the question input or image scanner;
- Attempting to overload, reverse-engineer, probe, or disrupt the App's servers, APIs, or underlying AI infrastructure;
- Using automated scripts, bots, or scraping tools to extract training data or solution sets from Scio;
- Circumventing subscription paywalls or in-app purchase requirements through unauthorized means.
C. Your Data & Privacy
What We Collect & Why
When you use Scio, the Company processes the following categories of information: homework questions and images you submit for analysis; AI-generated responses and your follow-up interactions; device identifiers and usage analytics needed to maintain service quality; and subscription records processed via Apple's StoreKit framework. This processing is described in greater detail in our standalone Privacy Notice, which is incorporated herein by reference.
Legal Basis & Cross-Border Transfers
Our data practices comply with EU GDPR Regulation 2016/679 and equivalent protections in other jurisdictions where Scio is available. Because the Company operates cloud infrastructure that may span multiple countries, your data may be transferred to and processed in regions outside your country of residence. We apply appropriate safeguards — including standard contractual clauses — to ensure such transfers maintain an adequate level of protection.
D. Who Owns What
Company-Owned Materials
The Scio application itself — including its source code, interface design, AI model architecture, training datasets, illustrations, iconography, and all associated documentation — remains the exclusive property of Xianggang Mengchuang and its licensors. These materials are protected by international copyright, trademark, and trade-secret laws.
Your License to Use the App
Subject to your ongoing compliance with these terms, the Company grants you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and run Scio on iOS devices that you own or control, strictly for non-commercial educational purposes. This license terminates automatically if you breach any provision of this agreement.
AI-Generated Study Content
Solutions, explanations, and study materials produced by Scio's AI are licensed to you for personal, non-commercial study use. You may not republish, sell, or incorporate such content into products or services offered to others. The Company retains all rights in the underlying AI models and generation pipeline that produce the content.
E. No Warranties — Use at Your Own Risk
Scio is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. Xianggang Mengchuang expressly disclaims all warranties — whether express, implied, or statutory — including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy of AI output, non-infringement, and uninterrupted availability. No advice or information obtained from or through the App shall create any warranty not expressly stated in this document.
You acknowledge that AI-generated academic content may contain errors, and that relying on such content without independent verification could lead to incorrect submissions, academic penalties, or other negative consequences. The Company assumes no responsibility for outcomes resulting from your use of AI-generated answers.
F. Liability Cap & Indemnification
Maximum Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Xianggang Mengchuang's aggregate liability for any and all claims arising out of or relating to your use of Scio — whether based in contract, tort, statute, or otherwise — shall not exceed the total amount you have paid to the Company for Scio through the Apple App Store in the twelve (12) months preceding the event giving rise to the claim. If you have not made any purchase, the Company's total liability shall not exceed USD $1.00.
Excluded Damages
In no event shall the Company be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, nor for loss of profits, academic standing, scholarships, or data — regardless of whether such damages were foreseeable or whether the Company was advised of their possibility.
Your Indemnity Obligation
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Xianggang Mengchuang, its officers, employees, and affiliates from any third-party claims, damages, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your misuse of Scio, your violation of these terms, or your infringement of any third party's rights through content you submit to the App.
G. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution
Portuguese Law Applies
These terms and any dispute arising from your use of Scio shall be governed exclusively by the laws of Portugal, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles. The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods is expressly excluded. If you are a consumer, this jurisdiction clause applies only to the extent permitted by the mandatory consumer protection laws of your country of habitual residence.
Resolution Path
Before initiating formal proceedings, both parties shall attempt in good faith to resolve any dispute through written negotiation for a period of thirty (30) days. If the matter remains unresolved, disputes shall be submitted to the competent courts of Lisbon, Portugal — unless local consumer law grants you the right to bring proceedings in your place of residence.
Claim Filing Deadline
You must file any claim or cause of action against the Company within twelve (12) months after the incident giving rise to the claim occurs. Claims not filed within this window are permanently barred.
H. Updates to These Terms
Xianggang Mengchuang may modify this agreement at any time to reflect changes in law, AI regulation, App features, or business operations. When material changes occur, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, display an in-app notification. Your continued use of Scio after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised terms. If you disagree with updated terms, your sole remedy is to stop using the App and request a refund through Apple's standard refund process, if eligible.
